We specialise in working with dark, melanin-rich lips at Pretty Face Ink. Lips with dark pigmentation are particularly common for people of colour - fitzpatrick types 3-6 generally have more melanin production and lips can often look two-toned. If your lips are brown or blue/purple (even if it is ever so slightly), the process will be a bit different compared to lip blush on clients without dark pigmentation. We must select warmer, brighter colours (like the example in our photo) to even out and lift the dark tones in your lips. Don’t stress! Your lips will heal into a soft and natural colour. It usually takes a couple of sessions to create an even and neutralised canvas. We will then work towards your desired goal colour. Dark lips require a minimum of two sessions and each session is scheduled 8 to 10 weeks apart to allow the lips to fully regenerate and even out in colour. Dark lips go through different stages of healing and sometimes can appear temporarily darker or patchy before they lighten and even out. A bit of patience is well worth the results.
